Volunteers

Our volunteers have diverse backgrounds. Some of them are computer software engineers, some are visual designers, and some are PhD students in autism-related fields. What they have in common is that they are all passionate about serving the autism community. With their help, we can get support in copy editing, event planning, science popularization consultation, etc. to provide more professional services.

Thank you to every volunteer for your time and dedication! We look forward to more people joining the ranks of volunteers and working together to bring more resources, influence, and warmth to the Chinese autism community in the greater Seattle area!

I am Dinglingling, currently a full-time mom and a graduate of New York University. Afterwards, I spent some time working as a visual/user experience designer. During that period, I participated in some interesting projects, such as designing early childhood education apps, developing CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) psychological consulting chatbot software, and designing autonomous vehicles and ect. In my spare time, I enjoy painting and psychology. For me, painting is the best way to express creativity and emotions. At the same time, I am deeply curious about psychology. Exploring this field has given me a deeper understanding of human nature and emotional experiences. Now, I look forward to dedicating my diverse skills and passion to projects that can help others, offering my strength.

Hello! I'm a product designer at Snowflake, with previous experience at Shopify and Microsoft. My educational journey took me to McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where I focused on media literacy, education technology, and second language acquisition. My passion for nonprofits and education equality, inspired by the TED Talk "Teach One Child at a Time," led me to travel to India and Thailand. There, I worked with local schools, helped with fundraising, built shelters, hosted cross-cultural awareness workshops, and taught English and Mandarin. I also contributed to New York University's Program on Creativity + Innovation, fostering creative projects and events. Driven by a belief that everyone should be able to design their own happy and meaningful life regardless of their background, I am committed to human-centered design that empowers and inspires.

August

Hello everyone, I'm August, a graduate from the University of Queensland, majoring in Education with a focus on Supporting Diverse Learners. During my studies, I learned about the diversity of learners. Beyond what people generally perceive as 'typical' learners, there are many learners with special needs (such as those with ASD, ADHD, or reading disorders) who require more attention and support from society. Sometimes, it might just take a bit more understanding and support from us for them to have a different life. Therefore, I hope to contribute a little of my strength through the CARES volunteer platform. I also hope to meet more like-minded friends here to learn and progress together.

Hello, everyone! I work as a software engineer - or one trained by code : ) I’m also a proud mother of two daughters, and now a passionate volunteer for the CARES. In these three roles - software engineering, motherhood, and volunteering - I’ve discovered a common thread: they all inspire me daily. They teach me patience, encourage me to think out-of-the-box, nurture my empathy, and remind me of the incredible power of unconditional love. I’m honored to be part of the CARES. Collaborating with so many talented and dedicated people, I look forward to learning, contributing, and making a positive impact in the lives of these remarkable children here.

小斯

Hello everyone, I'm Xiaosi. In fact, I'm a wanderer in the realm of science and technology who has nothing to do with psychology. From a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering to a master's degree in engineering management, and then to a software engineer and technical support position at Amazon, my career path has had no intersection with psychology. However, in my daily life, I have always considered myself a semi-amateur enthusiast of psychology. I enjoy reading popular psychology books like "Thinking, Fast and Slow" and love popular novels like "Therapy by Schopenhauer." Occasionally, I offer amateur psychological support to friends and family without fear or knowledge of the subject... Recently, I started taking some formal psychology courses at a community college, hoping that my future self will have more professional knowledge of psychology and can do something meaningful for the people around me and society. I'm delighted to have joined the volunteer team at CARES by chance. I hope to have more opportunities in the future to work with experienced psychologists here and like-minded peers to contribute a little to the mental health of Chinese families in America.

My research on education began at the Vanderbilt University School of Education. After obtaining dual degrees in Special Education and Child Development, I went on to pursue a Master's in Education at Harvard University, exploring the connection between brain development and education. After graduating, I decided to accumulate frontline teaching experience. Since 2020, I have been a special education teacher in the Bellevue School District and currently serve as the special education team leader at a public school. My greatest passion is sharing the joy of learning with children, ensuring that special needs children also feel included in mainstream schools and thrive.
